Express yourself!

Our culture influences the pictures in our heads. If you for example want to express in German, that you cannot do two things at once you would say: „Du kannst nicht auf zwei Hochzeiten tanzen.“ In English this is expressed by the proverb: „You can`t have your cake and eat it“ or “You can’t run with the hare and hunt with the hounds“. Therefore it is important to ensure that your translation accounts for the cultural background and the expectation of your target groups.

The general rule is: If your client just needs to approve a German press release in English you do not necessarily need a native speaker. But if you want to publish anything in a foreign country you should ensure that the translation is done by a native speaker from that country.
